Hyderabad: Morning walkers at G. S. Melkote Park had been in for a pleasing shock on Sunday morning because the park hosted a unique Jal Tarang concert.
For the uninitiated, Jal Tarang is a melodic percussion instrument of Indian origin. Consisting of a set of ceramic or metallic bowls crammed with water in various ranges, the instrument is performed by putting the bowls’ edges with beaters. A uncommon instrument with only a few artists identified for enjoying it, it is rather melodious and can be utilized in music remedy.
Pune-based artist Milind Tulankar accompanied by Ganesh Tanwade on Tabla introduced the concert. Starting off with ‘Jod Jhala’, he then performed the Lalit raag, which is a morning raga. Later he performed Saare Jahan Se Achcha, Choti Si Aasha, which was a success on the park.
“We hardly get a chance to play this instrument in such a serene environment, especially in the mornings. It is a wonderful opportunity,” mentioned Tulankar.
Organised by city-based Tatva Arts in affiliation with G. S. Melkote Park Walkers affiliation, this free concert was part of their Shubhodayam collection.
